Insurance Definition:
  • Noun. insurance - promise of reimbursement in the case of loss; paid to people or companies so concerned about hazards that they have made prepayments to an insurance company.

  • Noun. car insurance - insurance against loss due to theft or traffic accidents.

Basic Types Of UK Car Insurance:
  • Third party - is the minimum requirement of car insurance a driver is permitted in the UK. It will protect you for liability to other drivers in the event of an accident. You have no cover for personal injury, or damage to your vehicle.

  • Third party, fire and theft - In addition to liability, the insured vehicle will also be protected against damage that might occur in incidents of fire, theft or attempted theft. It gives cover for all legal requirements, such as hiring a solicitor to represent you should you need to go to court.

  • Comprehensive - This insurance (‘fully comp’ or ‘all risks’) gives you full risks cover. Every policy will be different, however you can claim for any damage caused to your vehicle by any means. This is dependent upon exclusions found in the small print.

Cover is usually inclusive of:
  • protection for accidental damage to your own car,
  • personal accident cover,
  • loss or damage to personal possessions,
  • medical expenses,
  • windscreen damage,
  • and more.
